Welcome back to the 2012-13 school year! All of you who are history majors at UCCS will be getting a “welcome” letter from me (Paul Harvey, Chair of the History Department), but I wanted to supplement that letter with this short post. I hope all of you will visit the history department blog frequently — bookmark it, check it once a week, or whatever — as we will frequently be posting here updates both about the program, upcoming courses, schedules, guest lectures, and the like. We will use the history department blog as a sort of ongoing “newsletter” to keep you updated and informed.
There are so many exciting things going on in the department presently, and I’ll post about them separately in the upcoming days. Most immediately, I wanted to let you know of our new faculty member, Dr. Yang Wei (Ph.D. Harvard University, 2012). Dr. Wei will be teaching courses in East Asian History for us. He is a specialist in Chinese history, and is a native of Nanjing, China. His dissertation concerned political thought during the late Ming dynasty (15th – 17th centuries). While at Harvard, Dr. Wei was the Head Teaching Fellow, and also has taught at Northeastern University, in Boston. This fall he will be teaching two courses in Chinese history, so check out his courses, you will enjoy them.
More to come soon. For now, welcome back, and please come by my office (Columbine 2055) and introduce yourself.
