Virtual Battlefield Study Opportunity for UCCS Students: January 17, 2013

Student Opportunity

This is from Mark Thompson, Professor of Military Science and Head of ROTC at UCCS, letting you know about an opportunity to participate in a “staff ride” to be held January 17, 2013, from 8 a. m. to 12 p.m. in the Eagle Rock Complex. See the details below; any student who is interested, please call the History Office (4069) or Paul Harvey (4078) and let us know, and we will put you in contact with the organizers:

Last January we had a team from the Combat Studies Institute at Fort Leavenworth come out and present a virtual staff ride of the battle of Wanat Valley, Afghanistan.  A staff ride is a graduation requirement for my cadets, as is taking a military history class, but there aren’t any good sites within driving distance.

The team is coming again to repeat the four hour experience on January 17, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. They do a great job, are very knowledgeable, and use great 3-D software to allow the students to see the battlefield.  I’d be happy to open it to some history students that can benefit from the experience.
