A Message From the New Managing Editor of the Springs Graduate History Journal

By Bradley White, Graduate Student

Bradley White is a second-semester graduate student at UCCS. His major interests include the history of slavery and the slave trade, the history of the Atlantic world, and the cultural history of American folk music. He is looking forward to the opportunity to oversee the graduate journal for the 2024-2025 school year.

Hello all! I am Bradley White, the new chair of the HGSA Graduate Journal Committee. For those of you unfamiliar with the graduate history journal, it is a journal dedicated to publishing the work of our graduate students here at UCCS including book reviews, research papers, and other materials. It is my goal to continue the legacy of the graduate journal and to provide opportunities for grad students in this program for publication. I encourage all of you to consider publication in the journal as it is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience with the review process as well as getting your work published. The journal requires a collaborative effort to create a properly reviewed publication that meets the standards of graduate level historical research. Submissions to the journal are rigorously reviewed by peer and faculty reviewers, and authors are given the resources they need to publish a well-researched and revised article.

Currently, I am on track to publish a full journal at the start of the fall semester. With that in mind, I also understand that there may be possible opportunities for additions to this edition, especially if I do not receive all revisions back by the deadlines I have sent to authors. I would therefore like to open the opportunity for further submissions to the journal. In the event that I move forward with publication of all current submissions in the fall semester, these submissions will be considered for the journal’s next edition which should be published in the spring 2025 semester. For possible consideration for the fall edition, submissions should be sent to bwhite7@uccs.edu by May 31. For those solely considering submitting for the spring edition, please send me your submissions by September 27.

Final articles for submission should be no more than fifty pages (12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced) including the bibliography, though initial submissions may be longer.

Submissions must include:

  • Digital copy of the article in MS Word format (.doc, docx)
  • Author’s name, email, and phone number
  • Title of paper
  • Geographic subfield (region/location)
  • Thematic subfield (political, social, economic, gender, etc.)
  • Abstract of article

Additionally, the journal is always looking for additional peer reviewers. If you are interested in participating in the journal this is a great opportunity!

Please email me at bwhite7@uccs.edu if you are interested in becoming a peer reviewer or have any questions or concerns relating to the journal or the review process.
